Our Values
The seven co-operative principles:
Open and voluntary membership;
Democratic control by the members;
Economic participation of all members;
Independence from outside control of the co-op;
Co-operative education for members, staff, and the surrounding community;
Co-operation with other co-operatives; and
Building community both inside and outside the co-op.
Social and economic justice:
Through stewardship of the community's stock of affordable housing and promotion of a co-operative environment, we contribute to providing members with a sufficient material foundation to lead dignified, productive, and creative lives.
Inclusiveness for people of any origin, age, gender, or sexual orientation without discrimination, including (not limited to):
those who are living with HIV-AIDS;
those who are living with disabilities;
those who are older adults wishing to remain in their own home;
those who are on fixed or reduced income; and
a wide variety of household types and sizes, such as single people; young, growing families; and households shared by older adults.
Protection of our architectural heritage:
As proud owners of heritage buildings, we work to promote, protect, and celebrate the architectural heritage of the Centretown community.
Community orientation:
In all our dealings, we prefer to work with local individuals and groups who support our values.
Environmentalism:
We make efforts to conserve energy and water, and prioritize environmental sustainability in all our activities, from member meetings to renovation work.
